Gauge

4” x 4”

  • FHDC 15, work pattern until 16 rows tall

Notes

  • Blanket is worked in rows
  • Ch 1 at end of each row does not count as st for next row
  • Your work will curl for the first several rows. This will be flatten once we add the border. If it bothers you, you may consider blocking your work after the first 10 rows or so, but the curling may return until the border is added

Main Blanket

Using I/9 Hook (5.5mm)

If  you tend to crochet tightly, you may consider staying with a J hook throughout, or even going up a hook size for the FHDC row

Row 1: FHDC x 115 (alternatively, chain 117, HDC in 3rd chain from hook, HDC across), ch 1 &  turn (115 HDC)

Changing to J/10 Hook (6mm)

Row 2: HDC in first st, *FPDC around next st, DC in the next st* repeat * to * until last 2 sts, FPDC,  HDC, ch 1 & turn (2 HDC, 57 DC, 56 FPDC)

Note: Make sure when working the HDC in the next st you are not working in the top of the stitch you previously worked your FPDC around

Row 3: SC in each st across, ch 1 & turn (115 sc)

Row 4: HDC in first st, *DC in next st, FPDC around next DC from 2 rows prior* repeat * to * until last 2 sts, DC, HDC, ch 1 & turn (2 HDC, 57 DC, 56 FPDC)

Row 5: SC in each st across, ch 1 & turn (115 sc)

Row 6: HDC in first st, *FPDC around next DC from 2 rows prior, DC in next st* repeat * to * until last 2 sts, FPDC, HDC, ch 1 & turn (2 HDC, 57 FPDC, 56 DC)

Repeats Rows 3 - 6 until you are at approximately 34” in length

For my blanket, I ended up with 125 rows in total, however the length is more important than the row count.

Border

Using J/10 Hook (6mm)

Working on the right side (the side with the FPDC)

Round 1: beginning in a corner, 2 sc, then sc around, placing 3 sc in each corner, ending with a sc in the same space as your starting corner, slst to first st.

Note: be sure that along the sides, you have an odd number of stitches (not counting the corners)

Round 2: ch 1, sc in same st (middle st of group of three on this corner), *ch 1, skip next st, sc*, repeat * to * until the last two stitches. Ch 1, skip next st (first sc in group of three), sc, ch 1, sl st into beginning sc.

** In the corners, place a (sc, ch 1, sc) all in the middle stitch of each corner **

Round 3: ch 1, sc in next ch space, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch space*, repeat * to * until the last corner. Ch 1, skip first sc of corner, (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner ch, sl st to first ch space.

** In the corners, place a (sc, ch 1, sc) in the ch space of the corner of the round below **

Round 4: ch 1, skip next sc, *sc in next ch space, ch 1, skip next sc*, repeat * to * until the last corner, ch 1, sl st to beginning ch space of row below

** In the corners, place a (sc, ch 1, sc) in the ch space of the corner of the round below **

Round 5: crab stitch in each sc around (being careful to keep loose in corners as multiples are not being placed)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.
